Sometimes there are days when we just want to breathe deeply and enjoy the moment. We love doing a relaxed Yin Yoga session - with our hejhej bolster as a companion. The bolster not only supports you during the practice, but also makes you feel extra comfortable. That's why we love having a cup of tea and an inspiring book with it after the session!
Why Yoga and Reading Go So Well Together
Yoga teaches us to live mindfully in the moment and to feel our body and mind. Books can also help us to focus on what is important and encourage us to think. When you immerse yourself in the words of another person, you often unconsciously begin to perceive yourself and the world around you differently. Just like yoga practice, it is about discovering yourself, letting go and living in harmony with yourself and the outside world.
Would you like to complement your yoga break with a book? We have selected five special books - two mindfulness books, a novel and two social books - that have inspired us, calmed us down and given us new perspectives. For us, they are a perfect addition to a relaxing break - and maybe just what you are looking for.
Our 5 book favorites
1. Unfog Your Mind by Dr. Caroline Messow
Who hasn't experienced this: a head full of thoughts that leave no room for peace and clarity. Even the most experienced yogis can struggle with this sometimes. But in Unfog Your Mind we have finally found a wonderful companion. Thanks to everyday tips and exercises, you will learn how to organize your thoughts and find more focus again. Especially in turbulent times, we just read a few pages now and then and with Caroline Messow we actually manage to clear the mental fog a little.
Our extra tip: Start with a short meditation with our hejhej-pillow and then read a few pages – the combination works wonders.
2. Stop Overthinking by Nick Trenton
Still caught in cycles of thoughts? Then maybe the book Stop Overthinking by Nick Trenton will help you break out of them. The easy-to-implement techniques are well described and should help you to consciously stop brooding and find more inner peace in the moment.
3. Leonard and Paul by Rónán Hession
In addition to inspiring mindfulness books, we also love a heartwarming novel. Leonard and Paul by Rónán Hession is a sensitive and quiet story about friendship, the small moments in life and the wondrous beauty of everyday life. The novel shows how we can find peace, joy and deep meaning even in seemingly inconspicuous encounters. Perfect for immersing yourself in a gentle and calming story and perhaps letting go of the heaviness you may have just felt. We often had to smile: the characters are described so closely to life that at times we felt like we knew them from our own lives.
Our extra tip: Get a blanket and our hejhej-bolster ready in a quiet and undisturbed place and consciously enjoy a little break with Leonard and Paul.
4. Rethinking Love with Emilia Roig
Social issues are particularly important to us and yoga philosophy is also very much about mindfulness, connection and positive changes in our relationships. That's why we want to share books with you that inspire us in this direction. For us, the book LOVE is a call for change: Emilia Roig sheds light on how patriarchal structures permeate our daily lives and how we can free ourselves from them as a society and personally with forms of love. The essay deals with the topic from the author's very personal perspective and provides numerous food for thought for more expressions of love, but also equality, self-determination and new ideas about solidarity. We were impressed by how deeply Emilia Roig discusses these important social issues in just around 100 pages.
Our extra tip: Take your time for one of the six chapters and read it in one go – perhaps after a relaxing 30-minute Yin session with Theo on our YouTube channel .
5. Unlearn Patriarchy 2 with contributions from various authors
The successor to the bestseller Unlearn Patriarchy offers even more diverse perspectives on the topic of patriarchy. With essays that invite you to question and rethink, this book is an inspiring companion for anyone who wants to delve deeper into social structures.
Small break, big impact
We hope that a cozy break with yoga and a good book will help you escape from everyday life and recharge your batteries. It is often these small, conscious moments that connect us more closely with ourselves.
